  • Houston, take note: the owners behind a new upscale boutique, Baanou, have plans to open their store in the spring. “Baanou,” meaning “lady” in Farsi, is the brainchild of Maryam Afshari and Lindley Arnoldy; the shop will be located near Highland Village.
  • Designer Sebastian Errazuriz is making the rounds this week after creating 12 pairs of shoes—one for each of a dozen ex-lovers. While the shoes are magnificent, Errazuriz’s writing leaves something to be desired: specifically, a copy editor. “We laid exhausted, she cried sad about breaking up,” he remembers. Stick to the shoes, Seb.
  • Moms everywhere are singing the name of designer Luis Pereira Twist, whose three-stage convertible stroller eventually transforms into a sleek tricycle. We’re betting you’ll see a few of these in the neighborhood after Christmas.
  • Also new, but aimed at a much smaller crowd, is Baltimore-area startup Borrow Mini Couture. When we say “small crowd,” we mean it: the business, created by mom Heidi Lieske, caters solely to the 5-and-under set. Parents can rent designer couture for children, including pieces by Dior, Versace, and Sonia Rykiel, from the store for up to five days. We love the business concept, though we think Lieske could have spent a little longer on the name.
  • A good sine: NEXT Architects, a Dutch firm with a Beijing office, has big plans for Dragon King Harbor River in Changsha, China. Their design for a looping, twisting bridge is inspired both by a Mobius strip and an ancient Chinese knot. The bridge looks beautiful, but we’re wondering what will happen to the surface traction when it rains.
  • It’s official: this coming year, think pink…or is it purple? Pantone has named “Radiant Orchid” the “it” color of 2014, so we’ll be seeing this flowery hue on runways everywhere come spring (in fact, labels including Juicy Couture and Yoana Baraschi have already incorporated it into upcoming collections). Pantone calls the color “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones”. We’re just happy to see emerald green take its leave.
  • Speaking of leaving, New York Fashion Week has some bad news for fashion bloggers. Starting next season, IMG, the company that runs the year’s biggest American fashion event, will be much more selective about who gets invites to NYFW shows. The idea is to make invitations “once again an exclusive pass for true fashion insiders,” says IMG. The good news is that if you do still manage to snag an invitation, you’ll benefit from new venues, flexible space and more focused events.
